If you had the pleasure of previously reading A Workplace Affair , the first book in this series, you’ve already met Sage. This is her story. Sage is fun, sweet and a fantastic baker. Connor is a chef, strong and very sexy. Both of them are rebuilding their lives after bad relationships. Both of them are not quick to trust , but they compliment each other so well, the sparks fly in each scene. As with the first book, the writing is excellent, never boring, has a good balance of nail-biting moments and tension, and a whole lot of sexy.
I love that the author’s style is so refreshing and doesn’t really follow a formula. Plus, there’s the bonus of a recipe in each book.

Recipe from A Sweet Affair :

“Sage’s Oreo Cheesecake Recipe
Please note: this recipe tastes best when you allow it to rest for 24 hours before serving. It isn’t necessary, but a suggestion for optimal flavor.
Crust
1 1/2 cups Oreo cookie crumbs (about 23 Oreos, finely chopped)
2 tablespoons butter, melted, plus more for the pan
Filling
3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
5 large eggs, at room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 (8-ounce) container sour cream, at room temperature or use
14 Oreo cookies”

“Instructions:

Crust
Mix melted butter with Oreo crumbs and press in spring pan cover the bottom and 1 1/2″ up the sides with crumbs, set aside.
Filling
All Ingredients need to be at room temperature before beginning. Beat cream cheese until light and fluffy (You can add the 1 cup of butter as listed as an optional ingredient). Keep mixer on a low setting during the mixing and beating process. Add sugar gradually and continue beating cream cheese until mixed through. Add eggs one at a time and continue to beat until blended. Measure the vanilla, salt and flour, pour into the cream cheese and egg mixture and beat until smooth. Add the sour cream and beat well. Turn off the mixer and stir in the coarsely chopped Oreo cookies with a spoon.
Pour cream cheese into the spring form pan and place the nine coarsely chopped Oreo Cookies on top of the cream mixture. Place pan on the top rack and in the middle of a preheated oven at 325 degrees and bake for one hour. The cheesecake will be done when it jiggles slightly in the middle when the pan is gently shaken. If the cheesecake is very jiggily, then cook for an additional 15 minutes. When time is up prop the oven door open and let the cheese cake stay in the oven for one hour. Remove from oven and let cool enough to place in the refrigerator for 24 hours. It is worth the anticipation. A cheese cake should season. The flavor ripens and becomes enriched.
Yield: 16 servings”

When I first saw the synopsis for this book, I expected one of those good-girl falls for CEO type of books. You know, the ones that are all the same, with different names and generally so-so writing. Man was I blown away!!! The synopsis does not do it justice!!!
First of all, the story in itself was very refreshing, unique and well-paced. Never a dull moment, the balance between details, descriptions, dialogue, tension, characters and funny conversations made for a book that I really enjoyed. Victoria, while sometimes getting on my nerves, is a pretty normal, independent, fun-loving professional with average situations in her life. Until she meets her boss, Leland. Leland doesn’t have any major baggage, (which I found was great) and is a considerate, caring and pretty much a normal guy. Except he’s rich. And really hot. Ok, so he oozes sexy.
Amazing sex scenes, funny dialogues, hilarious and loveable characters, this book should definitely be on your one-click list!!

Recipe from A Workplace Affair:

“Recipe for Apple Spice Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Buttercream
Ingredients
2 large eggs
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, melted
2/3 cup light brown sugar (or dark brown)
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 small Gala or Fuji apples, diced (about 1.5 cups)”

“Salted Caramel Frosting
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter
1 cup dark brown sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/4 tsp. salt
4-6 cups powdered sugar, sifted
½ cup vegetable shortening (such as Crisco)
water optional
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Line muffin pan with baking cups. Set aside.”
“In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, melted butter, sugars, milk, and vanilla until completely smooth. Set aside. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Slowly add the wet ingredients and stir until JUST combined. Do not over mix. Slowly mix in the apples.
Fill each baking cup about 2/3 full and bake for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Check after 22 minutes.”
“Make the frosting: While the cupcakes are cooling, melt the butter in a small saucepan. Once melted, add brown sugar and heavy cream. Stir constantly over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Add salt. Allow to bubble for about 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to slightly cool. Add shortening and beat until smooth. Beat in powdered sugar 1 cup at a time, until you reach desired consistency and the taste of the shortening is gone, adding water 1 teaspoon at a time if the mixture gets too thick. Frost cooled cupcakes and adorn with caramel sauce. Cupcakes stay fresh at room temperature in an airtight container for 5 days.”

Author Bio/Interview

Interview:

What was your inspiration for the Atlanta Affair series?
Isabella: Well, I live just south of Atlanta, so for me, that was an obvious setting. Honestly my characters were the inspiration. All three main friends (Victoria, Sage, and Nick) are all inspired by people in my life. I created all the characters first and then let them create the stories.
What is your writing inspiration?
Isabella: I guess you could say that my daughters are the reason I write. I’m trying to make a better life for them. As far as for the books themselves I use personalities I encounter as well as fantasies to inspire me.
How did you become a writer?
Isabella: I actually started writing in High School. Over the years I started several different stories, but always put them down and forgot about them. I thought I would never be able to get them published so I didn’t make them a priority. Recently I saw that Harper Sloan had released Axel. I went to high school with Harper and seeing her with a book out, inspired me to try again. She actually helped me a lot during this whole process.
What words of wisdom would you give to those wanting to get into writing or just starting out?
Isabella: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The indie author community is amazingly supportive. I still have so much to learn, but they are all so willing to help. I’m proud to be included in such an amazing group of people.
Who is your favorite character from your book?
Isabella: I honestly don’t know if I can answer that. I like all of them for different things. I love that Leland is willing to do what’s necessary to get what he wants. I love that Victoria is so self-aware. I really enjoy the friendship between Victoria and Sage, they fit together so well.
Who is your favorite author?
Isabella: That’s a three way tie between Janet Evanovich, Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, and Iris Johansen
Do you have a genre that you want to get into next?
Isabella: I’m pretty happy with the genre I am in now, but if I ever ventured into another one it would have to romantic suspense.
Do you plan to start a new book or series (anything outside of your current work)?
Isabella: Of course I plane to write more after my Atlanta Affair Series, but right now I am focused on “A Wedding Affair” thethird book in my series, which will be Nick and Piper’s story. There will be a total of five books in the series.
What is your favorite color?
Isabella: Turquoise
What is your favorite food?
Isabella: Potaotes
What would you die without?
Isabella: My daughters
What is your favorite city you like to visit?
Isabella: Out of the places I have been, probably New York
What place do you dream to visit?
Isabella: Ireland, I traced my family back to County Donegal Ireland and would love to go there.
What do you do outside of writing?
Isabella: I am a single mom, a server, and a baker.
What are you currently working on?
Isabella: “A Wedding Affair” and plans for an untitled stand alone novel.
What’s your favorite book?
Isabella: Wow, I don’t have an answer for this one. My favorite book always changes. I would say that whenever the new JanetEvanovich book comes out, I buy it!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Isabella: In 10 years I hope to be writing still without having to worry about working a day job. I know most indie authors don’t get that luxury, but I can dream!
What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Isabella: Probably reality tv, I can’t get enough of the drama. I hate drama in my own life, but give me the Real World/Road Rules Challenge and I’m hooked.
What is one thing that no one really knows about you?
Isabella: That I am still technically married. We’ve been separated for 3 years, and still trying to get the divorce.
What’s the best piece of advice you have been given?
Isabella: “just be sure to realize you’re dealing with men. Remember to think what would a man say or do in this situation, because me react and think very differently from women” from Ella Frank on writing my first m/m novel.
