Review: The Wishing Place by Mindy Haig

The Wishing Place by Mindy Haig

 First, the synopsis:
In her sleep, 8-year-old Valerie finds The Wishing Place, shown to her previously by her beloved grandma, and asks for something important. The Wishing Place brought her Nick Rossi. They didn’t know why , they just formed an instant bond while trying to figure out how the place worked and if each other was real or not. Many heart-breaking things happen to them along the years, especially to Valerie, but they grow up spending time with each other in dreams and knowing they were both real and that someday they would find each other in real life. The catch: N the Wishing Place, they could ask for anything except each other’s exact location. They could also see the future. They knew they’d find each other, just not where or when. This knowledge is the lifeline for both their lives.

This book is absolutely amazing!!! It has to be the sweetest, purest love story I’ve read so far , but it still has a couple of sexy scenes to spice it up. Nick and Val’s relationship is one that grew through time and it was perfect , but also had a lot of tough times. I also liked the fact that it touched on a lot of other subjects in the span of their lifetime, from divorce, child neglect, peer pressure and making choices.  I loved all the characters in this book, ( except Val’s parents) absolutely adored them, especially Nick and Val. They go through so many hardships, and yet they always rely on each other and The Wishing Place and that every decision they make will bring them closer to each other. While the story is sometimes very sad, its also very uplifting and makes you smile a lot. I would recommend this book to anyone and I certainly will be re-reading it very soon.

Blurbs:
“When I got here I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do. I was talking to
myself, I guess, but the room listens and I said I wanted to see something important, something really special and then suddenly you were there, here, so you must be important.” ~ Val

“And they left me with nothing, because I was just a reminder of a life that went wrong.” ~ Val

“She laughed. “Yes, I’ll pretend this is our wedding, and I am the happiest bride that has ever walked down the aisle. We can make plans for our whole life.”
“That sounds good.” I smiled. But as I stood looking at her, she was different, older, and smiling at me like it was the happiest day of her life. And I realized that she was wearing a white gown, it was strapless and I could see the curves of her shoulders, as she stood pressed against me with her arms around my neck and her fingers gently played with my hair. We were grown. It was our wedding. I was looking at Val the way she would look the day she would become my wife.” ~ Nick
