Review : Driven / Fueled by K. Bramburg

Driven was a bittersweet read for me as it reminded me a bit of Fifty Shades of Grey in terms of dialogue and character development. I found that in Driven, the first installment, the dialogue is a bit pretentious during the first half of the book, not because it was bad writing, but because it didn’t fit the characters.
The story evolves around Rylee, a caretaker for abused children with a traumatic past experience with her ex-fianceé and Colton Donovan, a famous race car driver with a reputation to match his ego. They meet in an unexpected way and slowly and with a bit of sexiness, understanding, wit, fighting and attitude, tear at each other’s conventional views of relationships and emotional defenses.
While it did infuriate me to no end in the beginning, I worked through it and finished it. I was glad I did. Driven was by no means the best book I ever read, especially after all its hype on social networks, mainly because of excessive clichés and unfitting dialogues and word choices. It is a great story, with awesome characters. While Rylee was a bit of a prude at first, she was still strong, kind, hard-working but had her normal swooning, bitchy and weepy female moments which made it easy to relate. Colton is sexy and strong-willed but not over-the-top alpha that can be easily overplayed in these scenarios. Their constant give and take , fighting made for a never boring story line.

Fueled , the second installment, was a huge improvement over Driven in terms of plot development , story line and word choices. Everything was better in Fueled. The author masters manipulating the reader’s emotions, the characters are easier to read and understand, a lot of things make complete sense and just when you think you caught your breath from this rollercoaster ….. The huge cliffhanger at the end will have you writing down the next book’s ( Crashed) release date on your calendar as soon as its confirmed.

As always, thank you for reading.
